Braids For Kids That Are Beautiful and Sweet

By Jeanine M

Braids for kids have become a popular style among girls everywhere. These unique, creative braids can be made by almost anyone with a little creativity and imagination. If your child has long natural hair, then maybe the box braids for kids would be a good option for her. Box braids for kids have been known for their curly, squarely shaped braids which make them the cutest, safest braiding style for your baby’s natural hair. Plus, you will not have to spend hours on styling this hair since it is so flexible and easy to design!

Simply start with a medium hair length, preferably just above the shoulders. Using fine to medium strands of yarn, create simple braids in multiple strands using a size 4 crochet hook. Using a large box brush, paint the outside of the box braids in white to keep it from blending into the natural color of your child’s hair. Add beads to the top of the box braids for a super cute look!

Another fun way to create braids for kids is to use raffia. Purchase a small package of raffia at any craft store or grocery store. Make a bunch of these by weaving different colors of raffia together. Once you have the raffia made, it’s a simple matter to attach beads onto the raffia and then secure it to your hair. This style works great for little girls with long, curly hair or even for little boys with short hair.

Next, make a large circle on your fingers and cover over your kid’s fingers with the raffia. Make two sections on your toddler’s hair and tie a rubber band around each section. Tie this band to start braiding the child’s hair. Repeat steps 3-4 for a larger diameter circle. Finish up by putting a bead on the end of the raffia and wrapping a small rubber band around the end of the raffia, tying it securely.

One of the newest braiding hairstyles is called the cornrows. This hairstyle is great for girls who want to have a fun, funky, and edgy look. Begin by cutting a length of hair that falls between your shoulder blades. If you don’t have long hair, you can always braid it up with another length of hair that is longer. Use a large crochet hook to make a ring of cornrows that lie parallel to the shoulders. Braid the cornrow ends in different colors to match your dress.

You can even add some fashion accessories to this style to make it more exciting. A thin black braid or even some handmade charm bracelets will really add to the whole look. There are many ways that you can pull off a braided hairstyle. Just be creative and have fun with it. No matter how you decide to make it look, a low maintenance braided hairstyle is definitely a favorite style!
